Batik

An expressive contemporary artform with traditions in the far east as a decorative textile medium.

Batik uses a combination of a resist (usually wax) and dye.

The technique is variable and can be applied to textiles and papers and incorporate aspects of discharge dyeing, collage and print.

I offer a range of workshops in Batik, suitable for absolute beginners to more advanced learners wishing to learn, aquire and further develop skills and knowledge.

Typically a Batik workshop will include, design & compositional considerations, basic colour theory, wax application, use of dyes, materials considerations, cleaning and finishing.

The workshops are generally informal and kept to low numbers to facilitate individual learning.

A major part of effective learning is achieved by promoting confidence and the workshops are structured to allow for this using:

  • Unique group dynamics and interaction between learners.
  • Person centred learning.
  • Provision of materials, equipment and learning resources.
  • Clear and effective communication between tutor and learners, before, during and after the workshop where necessary.

Workshops run throughout the year and in a variety of venues.
